AUSTRALIA is among the top five countries in terms of beauty standards when it comes to female cheerleaders, according to the latest figures from the Australian Institute of Sport and Recreation.

“Women are in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s and they’re all competing against each other and each other’s girls,” a spokesman for the AISPR said.
“I think they’re really embracing their role as cheerleading stars and it’s great.”
“I do think that they are doing it as an opportunity to be really proud and really take pride in who they are.”
The AISPr found that the number of cheerleaders with full makeup jumped from just under 1,300 in 2010 to 1,847 last year.
A spokesman for ASB said the number had gone up because of increased media coverage, the promotion of high profile cheerleader roles, and more professional development.
“There’s also more emphasis on the physical and mental training that they need to do to become successful cheerleaders,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the cheerleading boom was also seen in the media.
“The media are just a big part of it.
We have a huge global reach and we’re just really seeing this growth in the cheerleader industry,” he said.
